msi_x_slim-x340The MSI X-Slim X340 thin-and-light 13.4-inch laptop with Intel’s new energy efficient platform is coming soon.The X340 steps in as a serious competitor to the ThinkPad X200 and has the same features as the X320 with the following changes/additions: Intel’s ULV SU3500 1.3GHz processor, GS45 chipset with GMA4500MHD graphics, up to 4GB DDR2-800 RAM, 320GB hard drive, and HDMI output.

Starting at 2.86 pounds, the MSI X340 is based on the Intel CULV (Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage) technology with the GS45 chipset and the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics. It includes a Core 2 Solo CPU, up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 500GB of hard drive space. The laptop doesn’t feature a built-in optical drive.

The X-Slim X340 comes with an ECO Engine power management system that allows instant switching between five power profiles (office, gaming, movies, presentation, and turbo battery) depending on whether performance or battery life is paramount. This MSI laptop is equipped with a SIM card slot for 3G/HSDPA or WiMAX radios, though the availability of these options differ between regions.

The MSI X-Slim X340 is priced from $1,099.99; while it’s listed on the company’s site, there’s no sign of a specific shipping date.

Apple App Store registered its billionth application download. This feat is quite incredible when you consider that the App Store only launched about 9 months ago. Putting it another way, it means that over 3 million applications were downloaded each and every day!


Panasonic UK announced three new Lumix cameras called DMC-FS12, DMC-FS42 and DMC-FS62.

Lumix DMC-FS12 is a 12MP camera equipped with 4x optical zoom, 2.7 inch LCD, an Intelligent Auto mode that has an optical image stabilizer, auto ISO control, face detection and full auto scene selection.

While Lumix DMC-FS42 is a 10MP camera sport 4x optical zoom, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection and Intelligent Scene Selector.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS62 is similar to Lumix DMC-FS42 but boasting image stabilization feature. Still no words on price and release date yet.

acer_revoAcer has recently launched the first computer based on NVIDIA’s ION platform. The AspireRevo is based on a low-performance, low-cost 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor but draws on the 9400M-based graphics to run apps and content that are ordinarily impossible on Intel’s reference hardware. Other features include up to 4GB pg DDR2–800 (dual channel), up to 250GB of storage, 4:1 Flash card reader, VGA out, HDMI, 4x USB 2.0, and eSata. Measuring 180mm x 1870mm x 30mm, the device also supports 1080p videos, output 7.1 surround sound audio and is compatible with DX 10 graphics.

Nothing on price yet, but expect to pay between $350 and $450.

dell-vostroDell introduced three new laptops from its Vostro series including the 13.3-inch Vostro 1320, the 15.4 inch 1520, and the 17 inch 1720. These budged-friendly notebooks are based on Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors and support up to 8GB of DDR2 memory. The new systems have been specifically built to meet the requirements of business users worldwide and pack a number of features, including pre-installed videoconferencing and  webcam software. Additional options include SSD-based storage, fingerprint reader for security and even an encrypted HDD with Wave Systems software. Read the rest of this entry »
